The Party of the Century
A celebration of the 100th anniversary of Vizcaya’s gardens
Press Release: Posted September 14, 2021
MIAMI – This year’s Vizcaya Ball will be like no other. Coined The Party of the Century, this Truman Capote 1966 Ball-inspired evening will be held in Vizcaya’s beautiful formal gardens. Guests will arrive at the historic estate dressed in their finest back and white attire, complete with decorative masks and fans in line with the masquerade theme. Opera singer and composer Radmila Lolly will lead a special performance during the Ball. Guests will dance the night away under the stars with the Valerie Tyson Band and be captivated by a performance by New Century Dance. The evening culminates with a fireworks display over Vizcaya’s iconic Stone Barge.
Held al fresco in Vizcaya’s formal gardens, the Vizcaya Ball marks the start of a year-long centennial celebration of the completion of the gardens. While the Main House was completed in 1916, marking the start of James Deering’s winter stays at Vizcaya, the gardens took an additional six years to complete. At the time, the estate spanned 180 acres that included Lagoon Gardens, a mangrove shore, rockland hammocks and Italian and French-inspired formal gardens. Today much of the mangroves and hammock remain, in addition to the formal gardens enjoyed by visitors today. Mr. Deering established a lasting legacy for the people of Miami.
Co-chairs for the Vizcaya Ball, Jenni and Joshua Coba and Christy and David Martin, are joined by the Ball Committee that includes Guerdy Abraira, Eilah Beavers, Lesli Brown, Victor Diaz, Swanee DiMare, Roxana Garciga, Sonia Gibson, John Grisham, Carol Iacovelli, Cathy Jones, Linda Levy Goldberg, Marile Lopez, Brownwyn Miller, Carly Patterson, Ariel Penzer Milgroom, James Murphy, Tara Solomon, Elizabeth Sutton, Cammy Richards, Roy Teng, Silvia Trinidad, Timothy Walker, Josie Wang, Alexa Wolman, Patty Zhang.
