Portrait and Special Occasion still photography is permitted outside only, in our gardens and grounds. A permit is necessary for those who wish to use Vizcaya Museum and Gardens as a backdrop for posed or directed still photography.

Portrait and Special Occasion photography is defined as any one of the following situations, or any combination thereof:

  • Anyone having a portrait taken at Vizcaya, including quinceañera, wedding, engagement, birthday, family, communion, maternity, portfolio, prom, graduation, and any other posed portraiture.
  • Posed portraiture of individuals, camera-ready or changing outfits, where a photographer (amateur, semi-pro, pro-am, student or professional, whether paid or unpaid) has a subject(s) posing for a posed or directed portrait with Vizcaya as the backdrop.
  • Any visit to Vizcaya involving photography, where the main purpose is posed or directed portrait or special occasion photography, rather than a recreational visit to the Main House and gardens.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens reserves the right to further define Portrait and Special Occasion photography on a case-by-case basis.

It is important that you review our Permit Rules and Regulations prior to your visit and bring your completed copy with you to the Admissions Booth on the day of your photo shoot.

What if I forgot to make a reservation or they’re all booked. Can I still come?

Yes! We don’t limit the amount of walk-ins that come day-of for Portrait Photography shoots. You can always come day-of and check-in at the Admissions Booth.

Does the permit only cost the $25 reservation fee?

No, the reservation fee is just to secure your use of a Vizcaya wagon during your shoot. The remaining balance ($225 + tax on weekdays and $325 + tax on weekends) must be paid day-of your photo shoot at the Admissions Booth.

Can I come for just one hour and pay a different rate?

Our Portrait Photography Permits are not timed so that you can take as much time as you need. The rate is the same whether you come for one hour or the entire day.

Can I also film with the same permit?

No, filming would require a different permit. Currently we only have one filming permit option, which starts at $20,000 + tax. For more information about filming, scroll down on this page to the Movie, Television and Video Filming section.

What if I have more or less than 5 people in my party?

The Portrait Photography Permit covers up to 5 people (including your photographer, makeup artists, and any assistants). Any less than 5 people and the fee remains the same for the permit. Any more than 5 people and you will be asked to pay the General Admission rates for each additional person.

How can I arrange a surprise proposal without paying day-of?

How exciting! We’re so happy to be a part of this big day with you. If you intend to have a photographer with you to capture the moment, you will need to purchase a Portrait Photography Permit rather than just pay General Admission rates. We can only accept payment for the permit day-of the shoot, so you may want to send your photographer or another representative to pay for the permit ahead of your arrival. You will also need to fill out the permit in advance so that your photographer can bring it with them. This can be found on the “Permit Rules and Regulations” tab on this page. For any additional help keeping this a surprise, email us at vizcayainformation@vizcaya.org.

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept credit card or cash payments.

What type of props are allowed on the grounds?

We get all sorts of requests so it’s really best if you email us at vizcayainformation@vizcaya.org if you have any unusual props that you aren’t sure about. Remember that we are also open to the public, so we only allow things that are not going to be dangerous or disruptive to other guests.

What if I also want to visit the Main House after our photo shoot?

Great! We would love for you to visit the Main House as well, however, the permit only covers entry to the gardens. Once you have put your props, equipment, and additional outfits back into your vehicle, you can purchase General Admission tickets at the Admission Booth for entry into the Main House. Just note that for the safety of the collection and the enjoyment of other guests, there is no posed photography allowed inside the Main House.
