Miami New Times Features “Pastiche,” Where Past Meets Present at Vizcaya

A striking display featuring three intricate blue ceramic sculptures adorned with detailed sea-inspired motifs, such as shells, coral, and marine life. These sculptures sit on a polished wooden surface with a golden-framed base, reflecting light elegantly. The backdrop is a vivid maritime painting depicting sailing ships at a harbor during sunset, with masts, rigging, and a glowing sky adding depth and context to the nautical theme.

It’s long been a goal of sculptor Lauren Shapiro to work at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, a venue she calls a dream place for an artist.

The house turned museum contains a blend of diverse periods and artistic styles, including baroque, Spanish influence, and neoclassical, among others. “The building itself is kind of like a mishmash of these different types of styles and materials,” she tells New Times in an interview at the estate.
