Vizcaya is committed to providing our visitors with new ways of seeing the historic estate and celebrating artists in honor of James Deering’s tradition as patron of the arts.
Our Contemporary Arts Program (CAP) launched in 2006 as a commission-based exhibition series that provides artists with the creative challenge to develop original, site-specific work in response to a historic site. The program has extended to working with artists in different ways beyond the exhibitions, offering initiatives that connect creative practitioners with the community to create collective public art (PPA) and partnering with universities to provide students the opportunity to explore and experience arts in response to Vizcaya’s spaces or objects (CAP Lab).
Inspired by the dynamic, creative spirit that characterized Vizcaya’s inception 100 years ago, we continue Deering’s legacy and bridge dialogues between the historic and the contemporary.
Open Call: 2025 Contemporary Arts Program
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens invites South Florida-based artists to apply for the opportunity to develop site-specific work inspired by the historic estate, connecting with our audiences in creative and innovative ways. The selected artist will be commissioned new work that will be exhibited for six months beginning in November 2025. It can be a single installation or a multi-space exhibition.
