With roots in many Latin American countries, Sancocho is synonymous with special occasions and weekend lunches with the family.

Made with your selection of hearty vegetables, this tropical soup will bring the flavors of Latin American culture into your kitchen. Delve into the art of chopping roots, common herbs, and guascas, a popular South American herb, and make these into a delicious dish.

About Gabriela Serra (she/her):

A multidisciplinary artist, Gabriela Serra is a certified Restorative Justice circle-keeper and urban farmer. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, and currently based in Miami, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, her practice encompasses filmmaking, photography, and community facilitation. Through workshops and support circles, she focuses on exploring and regenerating relationships—between humans and non-humans, bodies and the land, and present selves with ancestral histories. She co-creates intergenerational spaces where oral tradition is practiced and honored.

 

LOCATION | This activity takes place exclusively at Vizcaya Village, the estate’s historic farm village, and does not include access to the east side of the property where the Main House and gardens are located.

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY WELLNESS SERIES | This series is designed to create opportunities for community and wellness building through a variety of wellness practices. Over a span of six weeks, workshop sessions feature expressive art therapy modalities, cooking demonstrations, and art-making activities. Thoughtful Thursdays will take place at Vizcaya Village each Thursday.

All refund requests must be submitted 48 hours prior to the event date.

To cancel member tickets email chris.rodriguez@vizcaya.org. All other ticket holders make refund requests on the Eventbrite sales page. No-shows and late arrivals are not eligible for a refund.

Every person, regardless of age or member status, is required to have a ticket and will not be admitted without one. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are not sold at door.

Making a donation to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens does not grant entry to this program. Health and safety regulations remain in place. This program is rain or shine.

While not all areas of the estate are wheelchair accessible, community programs are purposefully located in areas without stairs or that can be accessed via a ramp.
