Vizcaya was the winter estate of James Deering, a wealthy, white Chicago-born industrialist, but that’s not Vizcaya’s whole or only story – or even close to it. To tell a more complete and deeper story, Vizcaya went to our neighbors in Coconut Grove, a community that pre-dates the incorporation of the City of Miami and was founded in the late 1800s by Bahamian pioneers.
