Vizcaya Volunteer Guides

The purpose of the Vizcaya Volunteer Guides (including Greeters) is to serve as ambassadors, promoting awareness of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens by engaging our community and its visitors in learning through the arts, history, and the environment. All Guides support and advance Vizcaya Museum and Gardens’ mission, core values, and educational philosophy. Vizcaya Volunteer Guides advance these ideas by conducting guides tours and providing visitor services engagement with the general public. Vizcaya Volunteer Guides act as interpreters of the museum’s house, gardens, and collections by giving visitors a deeper understanding and appreciation of the museum utilizing techniques of dialogue and inquiry.

Vizcaya Volunteer Greeter

Interested and potential Guides are invited by the Learning Division to serve as Greeters. Greeters welcome visitors to Vizcaya upon arrival to the house, answer basic questions, remind visitors how they can spend their time during their visit and introduce ways that visitors can help preserve Vizcaya’s collections while visiting the house.  Greeters also assist Admissions operations including the distribution and collection of audio tours, and orienting visitors as they begin an audio tour experience. The Greeter program offers the opportunity for individuals to pursue additional training to transition to Active Vizcaya Volunteer Guides or to remain in the role of Greeter.

Volunteer Greeters are asked to fulfill two 4-hour shifts each month, totaling 8 hours monthly, or 96 hours annually. Vizcaya organizes 1-2 four-week Volunteer Greeter trainings each year that are required of new Greeters but accepts rolling applications throughout the year and allows individuals to participate in a condensed 4-hour orientation with the promise of attending a future training when made available. For more information about becoming a Volunteer Greeter at Vizcaya, please email the Visitor Services Manager at
