Introducción al Romanticismo

Durante el siglo XVIII se extendió por Europa un movimiento artístico conocido como Romanticismo, que pretendía evocar un mundo idealizado de sencillez rural en contraste con los centros urbanos e industrializados de las ciudades. Esta visión nostálgica de un campo apacible se expresaba a través de diversas formas artísticas, como las pinturas al óleo y las estatuas de plomo de jardín. Los temas de estas obras solían representar a pastores, cazadores y otras figuras rurales, presentando un modo de vida idílico, sobre todo para el público urbano.

Conozca al pastor y la pastora de Vizcaya

El Pastor de Vizcaya y su acompañante se atribuyen al talentoso escultor John Cheere (1709-1787) y datan de mediados del siglo XVIII. Adquiridas en Inglaterra en 1917, estas figuras fueron traídas para adornar los pintorescos jardines de Vizcaya. La estatua del Pastor mide unos impresionantes 50 centímetros de altura y desprende grandeza y significado.

La Pastora va delicadamente ataviada con un vestido de encaje, el delantal bien atado por delante, un sombrero de ala y zapatos de hebilla. Su compañero, el Pastor, está de pie, con las piernas cruzadas, vestido con calzones, camisa suave y chaqueta abierta, todo ello complementado con un sombrero similar y zapatos de hebilla. Originalmente, cada estatua tenía un atributo que contribuía a su narrativa, pero esos atributos se han perdido con el tiempo.
