Artist Shawna Moulton Leads as Miami Locals Build the Illuminated Finale for “The Fruit We Bear”
MIAMI, FL—June 2, 2026— Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is pleased to announce a new edition of Studio Vizcaya, a summer tradition of free artmaking workshops culminating in a finale performance. Led by teaching artist Shawna Moulton, the 2026 edition of Studio Vizcaya brings to life The Fruit We Bear, a community-driven series of illuminated sculpture workshops taking place from June 6, 2026, through July 12, 2026, and culminating in a finale on the evening of Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the historic Vizcaya campus
“Vizcaya was built as a home, and more than a century later, it remains one — a home for all of Miami,” says María Carla Chicuén, Associate Executive Director/Chief Strategy & Collaboration Officer. “Through programs like Studio Vizcaya, it has become a place where the community can come together, make their mark, and create something truly inspiring.”
Estudio Vizcaya
Building on Studio Vizcaya’s legacy of community artmaking that has drawn thousands of participants since it first launched in 2016, The Fruit We Bear invites Miami residents to collaborate in the creation of the pieces that will be exhibited at the final performance.
These include nine large-scale papier-mâché tropical fruit sculptures. Centered on collective growth, emotional wellness, and shared human values, each fruit represents a core human value: love, joy, peace, patience, hope, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-love.
“Rooted in the symbolism of nourishment, The Fruit We Bear explores how emotional and spiritual well-being — like fruit — requires care, time, and collective cultivation.” Shawna Moulton, Lead Artist for Studio Vizcaya
As participants shape the sculptural forms, conversations emerge through their own reflections, personal stories and affirmations. The project invites participants to reflect on the values that sustain individuals and communities while contributing to a shared artistic vision.
Free Community Workshops
The Fruit We Bear will include ten FREE community art workshops held across Miami on Saturdays and at Vizcaya Village on Sundays, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Workshop dates are as follows:
- Session One: Saturdays and Sundays, June 6 through June 28, 2026
- Session Two: Saturday and Sunday, July 11 through July 12, 2026
Saturday workshops are held at locations across Miami (specific venues to be announced). Sunday workshops are held at the Vizcaya Village Garage, 3250 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33129 — directly across the street from Vizcaya’s main entrance.
All workshops are free and open to the public. Registration is required to secure a spot.
No artistic experience is necessary, and participants of all ages are welcome; those under 18 should be accompanied by an adult. Workshop registration and updated venue details are available at Vizcaya.org/studio.
The Finale: Vizcaya Late — The Fruit We Bear
The series of workshops, countless hours of tireless work, and hundreds of Miamians creating together all leads to one important moment: a light-filled public finale presentation on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 7:00 to 9:30 PM.
Carrying their own miniature lanterns, lighting a path of collective hope in motion, nearly one thousand guests will walk in unison from Vizcaya Village to the waterfront of the historic campus at twilight, basking in the light of their community’s hard work as they discover nine large-scale illuminated fruit sculptures peppered throughout the historic formal gardens. Attendees will experience music, offerings from local food vendors and participatory artmaking on Vizcaya’s waterfront terrace
The experience is self-guided and designed for all ages. Free parking is available on site. Ticket information and details are available at Vizcaya.org/studio.
Studio Vizcaya is made possible through the generosity of community philanthropy, including vital support from the Efroymson Family Fund.
