El legado de Black Grove

Tres mujeres intervienen en una mesa redonda titulada "La rica y olvidada historia de Black Coconut Grove", organizada por Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.

Vizcaya is proud to have a long-running relationship with the historic Black Coconut Grove community. To learn more about our neighbors, and about the people who were central to the creation of Vizcaya, starting back in 1916, we partnered with some of Coconut Grove’s pioneer families and community leaders to launch a podcast.

The goal was to document the legacy of a community fast changing due to gentrification and other factors.

To share those stories publicly, we held our first panel discussion in February of 2020, called “A Rich and Forgotten History of Black Coconut Grove. ” To preserve the momentum through the pandemic, we shifted gears and started recording stories which would become the foundation for a podcast of the same name.

Published in 2021, “The Rich and Forgotten History of Black Coconut Grove” podcast is a three-episode series that features stories from legacy residents of the neighborhood and takes listeners through time from the 1930s to the present day. Get it here, or wherever you get your podcasts. Happy listening!
