Vizcaya’s design makes it easy to escape from the present into the past— now imagine the future.
Meandering through Vizcaya’s formal gardens, it’s easy to forget that every aspect of the estate’s architecture, landscape and decoration, were all carefully designed to evoke an earlier time and another place.
As in the design of the Main House, 360-degree views from this Mound reveal each of Vizcaya’s distinct landscapes: the mangrove shore to the east, the (lost) watery Lagoon Gardens to the south, the rockland hammock to the west, and the formal gardens to the north. Here, enveloped by 200-year old, windswept Live Oak trees, is one of few locations where the house appears small, almost a miniature.
Though urban Miami is not visible, like the heroic Live Oaks, it envelops Vizcaya. Imagine you are here on the Garden Mound 100 years from now. What do you see? What will our legacy be?
El diseño de Vizcaya nos permite huir del presente y sumergirnos en el pasado con facilidad. Pero, ahora, imaginemos el futuro.
Al recorrer los jardines formales de Vizcaya, resulta fácil olvidar que cada aspecto de la arquitectura, el paisaje y la decoración de la propiedad se diseñó con esmero para evocar una época anterior y un lugar distinto.
Al igual que en el diseño de la Casa Principal, la vista de 360 grados desde el Montículo revela cada uno de los inconfundibles paisajes de Vizcaya: la ribera de manglares al este, los acuosos— y perdido—Jardines de las Lagunas al sur, el bosque nativo al oeste y los jardines formales al norte. Este sitio, rodeado de robles de 200 años de antigüedad azotados por el viento, es uno de los pocos
lugares desde los que la casa parece pequeña, casi miniatura.
Aunque desde aquí no pueda verse Miami, la ciudad rodea Vizcaya como los heroicos robles. Imagina que te encontraras aquí, en el Montículo del Jardín, dentro de 100 años. ¿Qué verías? ¿Cuál sería nuestro legado?
