CAP Lab 2024

La Chambre parle

April 1, 2024

Project Overview

The CAP Lab is a university-level art program that provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with Vizcaya-commissioned artists, create site-specific works, develop their artistic practices, and explore various themes related to the estate. This semester, Vizcaya formed a partnership with the New World School of the Arts, and artist and educator Don Lambert.

In January, visual arts students, commenced their meetings at Vizcaya. Utilizing the estate as a working laboratory, they set out to develop and create a series of temporary site-specific installations and text-based interventions, drawing inspiration from their time spent exploring the home and researching its archives. The artistic outcomes of their collective research, titled “The House Speaks,” will be unveiled to the public during Vizcaya Late on May 15, 2024.

In observance of April Fools’ Day, a collection of short stories has been made available online, offering visitors a glimpse behind the scenes of the creative process inspired by Vizcaya and its people. “The House Speaks” is a work of historic fiction that delves into the mythologies of the estate, narrated from the perspective of Bel Vizcaino, a mythological figure at Vizcaya.

Directed by Don Lambert, in collaboration with Visual Arts Department students from the New World School of the Arts, “The House Speaks” invites audiences to explore the different acts in this series.

Please be advised that these narratives are fictional and represent artistic interpretations of an imagined space.
