Here’s a fun fact – Spanish moss is not Spanis Here’s a fun fact – Spanish moss is not Spanish and it’s not a moss! Seriously!

You’ve probably seen this tiny little plant hanging from Vizcaya’s 100-year-old oaks because it’s actually an epiphyte (or air plant), which means it doesn’t need soil to thrive. It can grow on other plants with its roots exposed to the air.

It’s also not harmful to its host at all, as you can see from our thriving trees.
Here’s where the fun fact gets fun! Spanish moss has routinely been used as stuffing material in everything from mattresses to home insulation. Plus, it gives our gardens a rather romantic quality, don’t you think?

Save this post or share it with a fellow plant lover. And if you have other fun facts about plants, share them in the comments. You might inspire our next post!

Vamos a compartir algo divertido.
