Edible Garden Design Workshop

Have you wanted a home garden full of fruits and veggies but don’t know where to start? This workshop is exactly what you’ve been looking for.
When James Deering, Vizcaya’s original owner, envisioned his winter estate, it included a working farm, which was both functional and beautiful. Similarly, this workshop will help you visualize and design your own “agri-scape” to share the bounty with your friends and loved ones. We will take inspiration from nature and learn how to incorporate and feature fruits, vegetables, and herbs in your home’s existing landscape.
Under the guidance of an experienced edible landscaper from Ready-to-Grow Gardens, the workshop will cover:
- the key principles of growing food in South Florida
- how to determine the right edible plant for the right place in a landscape
- use raised beds, fruit trees, food forests, trellises, pathways, and other features for maximum production and effect.
- Design considerations that factor in plants, colors, textures, and patterns
- Students will walk away with a beginning design diagram for their garden, which can be used to create a more in-depth master plan for the future.
IMPORTANT | Participants must bring:
A rough sketch of your property or an overhead satellite image that is at least 11” x 17” in size. Multiple copies could be helpful.
Include the cardinal directions and the notation of any large objects adjacent to the property, such as buildings, shade trees, roads or powerlines.
