The Kitchin is the first community-made stop-motion short animation made on the grounds of the majestic Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. A part of Vizcaya’s Contemporary Art Program (CAP). The Kitchin is the 2023 installation of community-made-and-performed art and explores the power of communal storytelling in response to the 2023-24 CAP theme “The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home.”
Vizcaya’s kitchen was once a stage for sophisticated and indulgent French delicacies. It was the perfect set for French chef Theophile (Theo) Cazes, to create elaborate masterpieces for James Deering and his guests.
In the workshops, we’ll create a narrative, make the set and the figures, film and edit. The final short film will be debuted, along with a series of behind-the-scenes videos at the culminating event on the evening of July 15, 2023.
Caprali and Cinza Lua Studios, owned by artist Karla Caprali and architecture designer Sophia Cabral, mother and daughter, join forces to present workshops on animation filmmaking and a vibrant installation exhibit with an opening for public viewing this winter at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens for this year’s CAP Contemporary Arts Project.
