Building Community through storytelling
You and every other Miamian has a story about how the climate is impacting your life … and all of our experiences are different, even though climate change affects us all. When we have a chance to talk about our experiences and hear others, we connect and learn about each other – making our collective community stronger through the process.
For this first-ever story sharing event, we’re bringing people from all over our community to tell their personal stories about how climate has impacted their lives.
Some stories might be about waterfront property and rising seas. Other stories might be about disenfranchised communities and the extra burden climate change has. Health concerns. Wallet concerns. Concerns about the future of our planet and concerns about the future of our society. Concerns about what’s happening right now. But also hopeful stories. Our growing season is longer, for example.
After each story, we’ll have a chance to share our thoughts and reflections with others, in small groups. The idea is to converse with people who might be different from ourselves and to understand the implications of this global happening on individuals within our community. In sharing and listening, we create a more solid bond with Miami and with each other.
