“In 1893, [my father] worked on the Royal Poinciana Hotel in Palm Beach until it was completed. He then moved south to the future city of Miami and continued to work for Henry Flagler as a plasterer on the Royal Palm Hotel. Miami became a city on July 28, 1896 before the Royal Palm Hotel was finished. The hotel opened in January 1897. With Henry Flagler’s hotel completed, my father went to work for the new city of Miami and laid all its early sidewalks.”
