Teacher Workshop: Sustainability at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Monday, October 3, 2016
8:30 a.m.– 3:30 p.m.

Explore issues of sustainability of the built and natural environments relative to Vizcaya as both 1) a complex, multifaceted historic site that serves as an international cultural heritage destination, and 2) home to endangered ecosystems unique to South Florida. Participants in this workshop will explore preservation and conservation concerns related to Vizcaya’s collections and architecture and will consider the protection of the natural environment that surrounds the Main House and its formal gardens. Teachers will return to Vizcaya with their students for a new, media-based pilot program that will include dedicated classroom lessons and resources. The workshop is for teachers working with 9th- through 12th-grade students. The workshop is $20 per person, limited to 25 participants, and includes breakfast, lunch and all materials. Complimentary bus transportation and museum admission for up to 35 students are provided to each participant upon completion of the workshop. Information: diana.pena@vizcaya.org or 305-860-8436. Register through M-DCPS My Learning Plan and search by workshop title.

Teacher Workshop: Lost Spaces and Stories of Vizcaya
Monday, January 23, 2017
8:30 a.m.– 3:30 p.m.

Lost Spaces and Stories of Vizcaya is an exhibition that celebrates Vizcaya’s centennial. Over the past century, nature and time have transformed Vizcaya, and many of its spaces and stories have been lost or forgotten. Eleven South Florida–based artists were selected to create site-specific installations that bring these spaces and stories “back to life.” The workshop will explore how contemporary art contributes to a dialogue with Vizcaya’s past that leads to meaning about arts, Vizcaya and Miami historically and in the present. The workshop is for teachers working with 4th- through 12th-grade students.
