Programming highlights history, art and Vizcaya’s natural environments throughout the entire year. Each month, family programs offer adults and children the opportunity to work together and to engage their creativity, while spending meaningful time making memories.
Family programs are free with museum admission.
February 26: Improvisational Performance
Families will join author Alejandra Bunster-Elsesser and 3 New World School of the Arts theater graduates during a fast-paced series of improvised sketches inspired by Bunster-Elsesser’s children’s book Blanchette and the Costume Design Gala at Vizcaya. Participants will shape the performance as much as the storyline in the book for a fun and creative afternoon on the Garden Mound!
Recommended for children ages 6–12 and their adults. Free with museum admission.
March 12: Zine making with Artist Amanda Keeley
Lost Spaces and Stories of Vizcaya artist Amanda Keeley will lead a workshop for families to create their own zine, a small print, hand-made magazine, using materials from Vizcaya’s archives. Free with museum admission.
April 21: Wild Vizcaya BioBlitz, Nocturnal Edition
Come experience wild Vizcaya and discover the site’s biodiversity with family and friends! Join Vizcaya staff, and a team of local scientists and experts, to help identify the many kinds of life in Vizcaya’s pocket of preserved habitat in the middle of bustling Miami.
During this evening program, visitors will get a chance to see the nocturnal wildlife at Vizcaya by using techniques like "light sheets" to attract insects! Free with museum admission.
April 22: Wild Vizcaya BioBlitz by Day
Bring the family to experience wild Vizcaya and discover the site’s biodiversity.
In a BioBlitz, curious “citizen scientists” gather to count as many plants, animals, and other organisms as possible in 24 hours. Learn techniques for exploring, observing, collecting data, and uploading photographs using iNaturalist on your phone or tablet (though it’s not required to participate). Join Vizcaya staff, and a team of local scientists and experts, to help identify the many kinds of life in Vizcaya’s pocket of preserved habitat in the middle of bustling Miami. Free with museum admission. No pre-registration required.
