    Processional Arts Workshops 2016: Whirl

Vizcaya first partnered with New York based Processional Arts Workshop (PAW) from July 23 through July 30, 2016, to create illuminated lanterns inspired by the work of Robert Winthrop Chanler, artist of the Vizcaya Swimming pool ceiling and the Vizcayan Bay screen. Over the course of six days, 12 workshops were held during which 124 adults and 56 children of all ages and backgrounds worked closely together. The project culminated in Whirl, a twilight performance on July 30, which can be seen in the video below.

    About Processional Arts Workshop:
Processional Arts Workshop (PAW) creates site-specific works and Carnivalesque performances worldwide, always involving local volunteers in the creation of pageant puppetry, mobile architecture, and illuminated structures. They have created community-based performances for NY’s High Line, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Columbia University’s Miller Theatre, Socrates Sculpture Park, Katonah Museum of Art, and as master puppeteers for New York’s Village Halloween Parade. Globally they have collaborated with communities in Kiev, Istanbul, rural Italy, and Trinidad. Their work has been recognized with a Fulbright Scholarship; grants from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and CEC Artslink; a Witt Fellowship at the University of Michigan, and a Kamov residency in Croatia.
